Immigration Reform Bill on Hold

The Immigration Reform Bill has been put on hold till after the Easter recess for Congress - April 24, 2006.

The Senators were unable to reach an agreement on how to proceed with regard to amendments. The path to legalization and citizenship was unacceptable to several Republicans who oppose the Bill as drafted and would prefer to see an enforcement only approach.

Republicans and Democrats are divided as to which party is the cause of the breakdown in the debate. Due to the Bill being shelved it is somewhat uncertain if the momentum will continue once Congress returns and what importance will be given to this debate. Though Senator Frist (R) promises to renew the debate he says it will depend on the schedule of other bills. Accordingly we urge you to call, email, fax your senators and representatives to vote in favor of a comphrensive immigration reform bill.

We will provide additional updates as and when available.
